How To Be Healthier At Work

We all know sitting down for eight hours or more in a chair is not healthy. Furthermore, sitting in a chair drinking caffeine and eat junk food without really having a balanced diet. The truth is we have all done it. Being stressed out at work means either eating everything you find at the vending machine or simply nurturing your body with coffee and energy drinks. We should try our best to be healthier at work, since this is where we spend more than half of our day and basically all week. This article featured in Business Insider by Alison Griswold explains how to be healthier at work.
Jamie Russo, Chief of Work at Enerspace, a place where wellness and workplace meet, explains how three simple steps can get you to be healthier at work.
1. Switch posture constantly. Although it’s not easy to be switching postures at your desk you can always substitute your chair for a yoga ball or a standing desk or try to hold conference calls while walking. Why? sitting down for eight hours is not healthy. It’s not that you are going to sit in a yoga ball for eight hours but try to alternate postures throughout the day.
2. Take breaks every few hours. Every hour or so, go get water, walk to the bathroom, walk throughout the office and stretch those muscles! Walk around.
3. Another recommendation Russo makes is leaving your lunch at home and grabbing lunch somewhere you can walk and get fresh air. The only problem with this is that if you are on a tight budget or saving mode eating lunch out everyday is not your solution. What you can definitely do is bring your homemade lunch or leftovers to work and use the rest of your lunch break to take a walk or run errands.
Try to break the daily routine! Bring healthy snacks! Walk around! Get fresh air! Be productive and be healthy!
