6 Ways the COVID-19 has Changed Resume Writing

COVID-19 has undoubtedly changed the way we used to do many activities and processes daily. Events, meetings, classes, and workshops have gone fully online now. Job interviews have not been the exception, with many companies in need of filling their positions, this is a process that could not be paused.

Resume writing has also been affected due to the new digital trends and remote role needs, many employers are focusing on this, you should pay attention to the following tips to make your resume stand out from the crowd:

Make your resume stand out for your telecommunication skills

With many roles changed from location-based to remote positions, it is important to take advantage of your experience using platforms like Skype, Zoom and Google Meet. Employers will be more interested in who is familiar with the current telecommunications technologies, highlight it.

 A title catches the attention

Hiring managers review a lot of resumes looking for the best fit, a resume title could be a great approach to take their attention, even more, if that match with the job requirements, for example, if you apply for a sales job that specified 7 – 9 years of experience, you can add ‘’Experience Sales Manager’’ to pass to quickly the filter and have your resume noticed.

 Prioritize keywords

The ATS (applicant tracking system) software technology has had an important reception in the employers and recruiters to collect and classify information about the possible candidates, it is important to adapt your resume to overcome this filter.

The best way to do it is by using the right keywords, it is recommended to pay attention to the wording of the job description and the language used in your industry so that your resume is aligned with all the terminology that is looking for the position.

Customize your resume

To make a difference in this competitive market, it is important to give employers reasons why they should hire you, and even more with dozens of people applying for the same position.

We highly recommend tailoring your resume for each position in which you apply, highlighting for each one your skills are of most interest to the employer described in the job description. Also, this shows interest and proactivity on your end.

Do not be afraid to add some personal details

You can consider adding personal details to your resume, even more so if they align with the company culture. If you have done any volunteering that fits the activities of the industry, do not hesitate to place it on your resume.

Optimize your resume

The number of applicants for the same position has risen significantly due to the pandemic and what it brought to the companies, this has resulted in more material to read and discard.

When the hiring manager is reading your resume, you only have a few seconds to create a good first impression, try to create a summary of your experience in the most relevant positions in which you have worked, do not hesitate to leave out those positions that are not meaningful to which you are applying. In that order, your resume will only have vital information of interest to the employer and its reading will be easier.
